Pioneer Valley Water Co-operative Limited (PVWater)

PVWater Board structure / elections

The Board of PVWater consists of three (3) Active Member Directors elected by the co-operative's members, and two (2) Independent Directors appointed by the Board.

Two (2) Directors retire annually on a rotational basis, but are eligible to stand for re-election/re-appointment.  If the number of subsequent nominees for election to the Board exceeds the number of Active Member Directors retiring, a postal ballot is accordingly held.  If an Independent Director has retired in the rotation, the Board may nominate the same or another qualified person to fill the vacated seat.  This process should ordinarily be completed by ratification at the Annual General Meeting for the co-operative.  Current Directors include;

 Andrew Cappello - chairperson

Active Member DirectorAndrew is a sugar cane grower and harvesting contractor with a water entitlement in the PRWSS which he accesses through the Silver McGregor irrigation area. He was initially elected to the board of PVWater in 2005. Andrew acted in the role of Deputy Chairperson of PVWB from 1996 until 2008, and subsequently as Chairperson until conversion of the business in 2016. Andrew is also Chair of the board of Mackay Sugar Limited and a director with both Mackay Area Productivity Services (MAPS) and PVMutual.

Active Member DirectorLawrence is a sugar cane grower, accessing his water entitlement in the PRWSS from the Pioneer River in the Riparian irrigation area. Lawrence was initially elected to the board of PVWater in June 2005, subsequently moving to the role of Deputy Chairperson in November, 2008. He simultaneously acted in the role of Deputy Chairperson on the board of PVWB until conversion of the business in 2016. Lawrence is also a director with both MAPS and Mackay Sugar Limited.

Active Member DirectorStephen is a sugar cane grower, accessing his water entitlement in the PRWSS from the Pioneer River in the Riparian irrigation area. Stephen was initially elected to the board of PVWater in 2009, simultaneously serving as a director on the board of PVWB until conversion of the business in 2016.

 Bill Cooper

Independent DirectorBill was initially appointed as an Independent Director to the boards of PVWB and PVWater simultaneously in 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Business Accounting, a Bachelor of Law, and Diploma in Legal Practice and has a demonstrated depth and breadth of experience across wide ranging financial and legal interests. Bill provides the board with valued guidance, particularly in legal matters.

PVWater's staff

PVWater's staff form a compact team dedicated to providing a reliable, sustainable irrigation water supply at minimum cost to PVWater members. Current staff include:

 Greg Dawes

ManagerGreg was initially employed by PVWater's predecessor Pioneer Valley Water Board (PVWB) in April 1998 in the position of Operations Officer, having a diverse employment background including experience in information technology, the finance sector, local government and the agricultural sector. Following 17 years in operational and management roles, Greg has aquired extensive knowledge of PVWater's operations, and of the legislative and commercial environment within which the organisation functions.  Greg was appointed to the role of Manager with PVWB in September 2015, and transitioned in that role across to PVWater on conversion from the statutory authority in March of 2016.  Greg has also performed the function of Secretary for the co-operative since September of 2015.

 Judy Walsh

Administration ManagerJudy joined PVWater's predecessor Pioneer Valley Water Board (PVWB) in February of 2001 and transitioned in the role of Administration Manager across to PVWater on conversion from the statutory authority in March of 2016.   Judy has a background in administrative duties and customer service, and is PVWater's first point of contact for all financial and general enquiries.  When you contact us, there is a high probability that the cheerful voice on the end of the line belongs to Judy.

 Scott Johnston

Operations OfficerScott has recently joined PVWater after 10 years in the mining industry on various sites in the Bowen basin.  Previously, Scott had spent 13 years in the bulk water industry operating dams and weirs along the Burnett River including participation in the commissioning of Ned Churchward Weir, Paradise Dam and numerous other tasks involved with bulk water distribution.  Scott is looking forward to assisting the PVWater team in providing a dependable and sustainable irrigation water supply to all of PVWater's members.

 Richard Faulkner

Operations AssistantRichard has a rural and industrial background, having experience with general machinery operation and maintenance, cane carting, stock control and purchasing, and ocupational health and safety.  He is responsible for maintenance of infrastructure, stock control and meter reading.  Richard joined PVWater's predecessor Pioneer Valley Water Board (PVWB) as Operations Assistant in October of 2007 and transitioned in that role across to PVWater on conversion from the statutory authority in March of 2016.  You will most likely encounter Richard in the field, servicing equipment or reading your meter.

Pioneer Valley Water Mutual Co-operative Limited (PVMutual)

PVMutual Board structure / elections

The Board of PVMutual consists of two (2) Active Member Directors elected by the co-operative's members, and one (1) Independent Director appointed by the Board.

Active Member DirectorJohn is a fourth-generation sugar-cane farmer, accessing his water allocation in the PRWSS from the Septimus irrigation area. John was elected to the board of PVMutual in November 2014. He has previous experience in directorship through roles as a director of Mackay Fibre Producers Pty Ltd and Advanced Nutrient Solutions Pty Ltd.

Independent DirectorJohn is currently a director of Macrossan and Amiet solicitors, and was appointed to the board of PVMutual at formation of the co-operative in August of 2013.  He holds a Bachelor of Laws, and is a general legal practitioner with many rural clients in both the farming and grazing sectors. John also has a historic association with Pioneer Valley Water, having previously served in the role of Special Interest Director with PVWB. John provides the board with valued guidance, particularly in legal matters.
